Mare Care and Foaling Option: Breed Leases also Available Call For More Information.
Stallion information can be found in Links tab.
In breeding your mare there is always a lot to think about; from thinking about what you want in a foal, to what stallion you will use, do you have the space at your barn for a mare out of work, and where will i foal out?. On our stallion page you can find nice quality stallions. Here mare care is for the year of gestation of your foal. As your foal is growing and developing, quality feed, hay and, pasture time are very important to their health (keeping the mare physically fit here is an option aswell: if you can't make it here to ride or lunge your mare, we can provide a work schedule, pricing will be issued upon request of service and depending on the mares needs and the owners wants).
FULL MARE CARE
Durning the first 7 months your mare can either be on stall or pasture board *rates under boarding prices listed above*
In the last 3 month the mare will be taken off pasture and placed in a private paddock, board rate at this time will increase to $600.00/ month ( this rate is for 2 month, not the finally month foaling. Last month of foaling, due to foal watch price is listed below). Mare will go on a Mare in Foal feed and Alfalfa hay at this time. The Alfalfa will increase as she gets closer to her due date, allowing the milk to come in for the future foal you are about to have. If the mare has her foal here, we provide foaling watch here at BR Farms, the rate for this month is $725.00, this covers the time that will go into watching her, and being there for her during labor. After the foal has arrived your board rate will stay at $850.00/ month, this will cover the mares board (including high fiber diet for two weeks after foaling), the foal, foal care afterwards, etc. This rate will stay the same until the foal reaches weaning stage (4-6months of age). At this point, individual board rates will apply according to the rates listed at that time.
Here is what we recommand for your mare care while she is here at BR Farms:
All Spring and Fall Shots will be done as normal, UNLESS there is a factor of NOT being reccommanded for Mares in Foal.
Pre-Foal Vaccs” are given 3 to 6 weeks before they are due to foal.
When to give to a Broodmare Vaccines:
Sleeping Sickness, Tetanus, Flu, Rhino and West Nile
Give to pregnant mares 4 to 6 weeks before due date
(Rhino is also give during the 5th, 7th, and 9th mo. of Pregnancy)
Rabies
Give a few days After she foals and Before you breed her back * It is very important to follow your Rabies guidelines*
- This is ONLY a Recomendation but we require ALL shots to be done on mare in foal at BR Farms, A Vet will be adminastratin ALL Shots on a schedule for the
safety fo the mare and growing foal.
Foal vaccinations
Given at four to five months of age, provided the mare was correctly vaccinated and the foal received adequate colostrum. If no mare vaccination, foal is given tetanus and tetanus antitoxin at birth and vaccines are given at three months of age.
• Eastern and Western Encephalitis
• Tetanus
• Influenza
• Rhinopneumonitis
• West Nile
• Intranasal Pinnacle (Strangles)
• Rabies
These vaccinations should be repeated in three weeks to boost initial immunity. Some owners like to separate out these vaccines and do them in two sessions so the foal does not have to take so many injections at one time. This staggered approach may lessen adverse reactions in some horses prone to such a response.
*ALL Vaccines are at the owners expense NOT included in the Mare Boaridng Rate, Farrier work at owners expense, wormers, the only thing included in your board is Quality hay, Grain, pasture time, Stall/ Pasture, and care. Any and All extras are the respnsiblity of the owner as directed in the boarding agreement. Unless other arrangements are made and agreed upon by both parties.
